September 15, 2020 There was recently a big surprise for researchers tracking wolves on Michigan's remote Isle Royale. Apparently, the wolves had pups and they are the island's first in several years. That isn't the only activity among the wolf population, though, the researchers report in their latest update on the animals and their habitat. Details from the report show one wolf is missing. She's the last remaining old island-born female and no one has seen her from the air or on foot. The study also describes how groups of wolves have started marking their territory. With so much changing on the island, they are essentially splitting into teams and trying to take over certain spaces. Researchers say it's created "a lot of tension." According to the July survey, 72% of the Michigan residents who participated said they always wear a mask in public. More specifically, more Black residents report wearing masks than residents of other races and women are more likely to wear face coverings than men.
