Veterans honored across the state during cold, snowy memorial services

They braved the cold. They braved the snow. It was all in support for those who have braved much, much more. Several Veterans Day events Monday in the state took place outside under billowing, snowy skies. "It's a small sacrifice compared to the sacrifices they made when they were serving our country," said Jim Barca, after a Veterans Day ceremony in Bay City. Retired Air National Guard Col. Frank Walker said it best during a ceremony at Fort Custer: "No veteran ever dies" because their memories and sacrifice are preserved and honored. MORE

Early season snowstorm has Michigan in mid-winter form
hat
Did you get your leaf raking done in time? If not, that's OK. Monday's snowstorm blanketed much of Michigan with inches of white snow, effectively covering up any sign of those neglected fallen leaves. (For a few days at least!) The I-94 corridor from Kalamazoo to Detroit got the brunt of the system. But we'll be seeing areas of lake effect snow for the next few days. MORE

Saginaw, MSU great Charles Rogers dead at 38

Charles Rogers was known for his unbelievable athleticism on the field. What friends and family might miss most about him is the incomparable smile he was so quick to flash off of it. Rogers, 38, died Monday from liver failure. The Saginaw High star became a national figure during his record-breaking stint at Michigan State. He was a first-round draft pick by the Detroit Lions, but his pro career lasted just three years, in part due to injuries. MORE

Finalists named for 2019 Player of the Year; one spot left for voters to pick
hat
The prep football season was cut down to 64 teams this weekend. (We rank all remaining 11-man teams here!) Now, we've reduced the Player of the Year Award field to four - with a to-be-determined fifth player set to join in a couple of days. Muskegon's Cameron Martinez is looking to become the first two-time POY. The strong field includes a pair of running backs and a wide receiver. The fifth spot is reserved for the winner of fan voting, which runs until 3 p.m. Friday. (Click this link and scroll to the bottom to place your vote.) MORE
