 While much of the recent discussion about COVID-19 has focused on vaccinated vs. unvaccinated persons, there’s been less talk about those who have acquired natural immunity through infection by the virus. It does appear that previous infection of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, offers some immunity to reinfection, although there’s ongoing debate over how much and for how long. Natural immunity “does provide pretty good protection, there’s no doubt about that,” said Dr. Liam Sullivan, a Grand Rapids infectious disease specialist with Spectrum Health. “The question is how long does that protection last, and I think it’s too early to say.” READ MORE ►Safety concerns, trust in immune system among reasons for COVID-19 vaccine holdouts  While laws to protect against hair discrimination have been passed in some local towns in Michigan, a bill to protect hair texture and style has been stalled in the state legislature. House Bill 4275, also known as Michigan’s CROWN ACT, was first introduced in the House of Representatives in February. Since then, the bill has yet to move through the Republican-controlled Judiciary Committee. CROWN is an acronym standing for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair.” If passed, the CROWN Act law would prohibit discrimination based on hair texture and race-based hairstyles, including braids, dreadlocks, twists and afros. READ MORE  In the early days of the pandemic, there were an estimated 80,000 Michigan residents at risk of eviction. A year and a half later, the federal eviction moratorium has ended and local legal aid funds are still sorting through a backlog of cases. The U.S. Supreme Court on Aug. 26 ruled to end the federal eviction moratorium first enacted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The moratorium was extended multiple times since September 2020. In that time, the U.S. Treasury paid $25 billion to states and local governments for COVID Emergency Rental Assistance. READ MORE
 We don’t know very much about Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions. Hell, we don’t really know that much about Dan Campbell. We don’t know how he’ll manage a game. We don’t know about his offense or his defense, not really anyway. We just don’t know much -- other than this team probably will lose a bunch of games. The roster has pockets of talent, but it’s lean in too many areas and unproven in others, including at right tackle, where 20-year-old Penei Sewell has played a season-and-a-half of football since high school and none at all at right tackle.
