The dismissal of the remaining Flint water crisis charges and how we got here

The State of Michigan last week dismissed the eight remaining Flint water prosecutions. It was a stunning turn of events. (And the years-long Flint water crisis has played witness to no shortage of stunning turns.) The cases were dismissed without prejudice, which means they can be retried, and the state says its investigation continues. We map out the events that got us here. The Flint Journal Editorial Board also weighs in with an opinion piece. Here's an excerpt: "The people of Flint were promised justice. That has not happened and might never happen. It begs the question: How does the water crisis end? We've expected a bang all along, but how will we feel if it ends with a whimper?" MORE

Torregrossa says June could go down as the 11th consecutive month we Michiganders have lived under cloudier-than-normal skies. Rain in the forecast isn't going to help. But maybe, just maybe, a normal Michigan summer is on the horizon? MORE

Each year we have fun covering all the high school sports: from August football practice to the spring sport championships in June. But a few years ago, we developed a scoring system to determine the most successful athletic program in the state in a given school year. Rockford was the three-time Ultimate Sports Champion entering this year. Did the Rams continue their dominance? Here are the top 25 programs in the state. MORE

Oldest continually manned fire station is in Michigan

The Manistee Fire Station is about to celebrate its 130th year anniversary. It got an early anniversary gift this week from the folks at Guinness World Records. The station in the lovely Lake Michigan hamlet between Muskegon and Traverse City was awarded the title of "Oldest Continuously Manned Operating Fire Station." Kudos to all the firefighters who've worked there over the years! MORE
