The closest checkered flag in I-500 snowmobile race history |
After the grueling nine hours spinning around the oval track, there is a new king of snowmobile racing in North America. In the closest finish in the 54-year history of the I-500, Joey Burch led the #19 sled from Tommie Bauer Racing to a .0001-second victory over Ross Erdman, who was racing the #29 for D.L. Racing. The victory came for Burch exactly 17 years after his father, Joe Burch II, passed away from a heart attack while racing on the same track in 2006. Watch the epic photo finish. And for your information, this is how thick the ice needs to be to safely ride a snowmobile on. |

Whitmer, legislative leaders announce agreement on Michigan tax cuts
|
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Democratic leaders in the legislature have reached a deal on a series of tax cuts, according to a press release from the Governor’s office.
What's the idea? Details of the plan were not immediately offered. However, the release said the framework of their deal would “deliver inflation relief checks to all Michigan taxpayers” without providing specific amounts. More in Lansing: Registered Michigan lobbyists reported the largest increase in lobbying spending in the state’s history in 2022, spending a record $49.2 million lobbying state-level public officials, according to the latest disclosures. |

January snowfall way down for all of Michigan |
Looking at the entire month and state: January was a very warm month compared to normal. With warm air we don’t get much snowfall, and that was certainly the case across all of Michigan. February looks like it’s going to pick up where January left off- with the lack of snow. Think Michigan’s weather stinks? It may make you feel better to look at Mount Washington in New Hampshire, who had -100 wind chills and gusts up to 125 mph over the weekend. February stargazing: Our February nights promise some sweet sparkle for stargazers, including star clusters, the full Snow Moon, and two planets getting cozy in the sky. |

Jack Morris speaks out on TV split with Detroit Tigers |
No bad blood: Jack Morris won’t be part of the Detroit Tigers television broadcast team this season but that’s OK with the Hall of Fame pitcher. Morris said Saturday that there are no hard feelings over the split with the Tigers, for whom he spent 14 seasons pitching before joining the TV crew for the first time in 2015. What now? The Tigers made the split official last week that Morris will be replaced in the booth by Craig Monroe. Morris said he has no plans to pursue another broadcasting job.
Weighing in:Morris earned a reputation for calling things as he sees them so who better to ask about the 2023 outlook for the Tigers? Here's his thoughts. |
