Wolverine Worldwide is cited for a delay in tannery PFAS cleanup. |
Too late: Wolverine Worldwide has earned a legal citation from Michigan environmental regulators for delaying the launch of a long-awaited system to remove contaminated groundwater entering the Rogue River where the company’s century-old shoe leather tannery once stood.
The backstory: Wolverine used 3M Scotchgard at the tannery for decades to waterproof leather. Tannery waste dumps polluted large swaths of northern Kent County. In Rockford, extremely high levels of PFAS remain in the groundwater.
More from our environment team:The public is invited to share concerns about energy matters with state utility regulators during a pair of upcoming events. |

Far out! Did you see the new episode of 'Unsolved Mysteries' focused on Michigan UFO sightings? |
March 8, 1994: That's the night that a whole slew of people in Michigan say they spotted UFOs in the night sky, and no one can really logically explain what happened. That's why the topic has landed on the Netflix relaunch of "Unsolved Mysteries." They moved in mysterious ways: From Ludington to Allegan County and all the way down to Michigan’s southern border, people all over West Michigan described what they saw as multiple circular lights in the sky, moving in unusual ways.
Another story from Ed: As always, Ed Pevos is watching for all the fun entertainment news and he has the info on Taylor Swift's newly announced tour, which is making a stop in Michigan. |
