February 22, 2022 The Michigan Senate has approved cutting the personal income tax rate from 4.25% to 3.9% and cutting the corporate income tax rate from 6% to 3.9%. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has hinted she’d veto the bill. The plan would cost Michigan about $2.6 billion by 2024, according to the Senate Fiscal Agency. Michigan has a $7 billion budget surplus thanks to COVID-19 federal stimulus funds. Republicans say the change would help grow businesses and keep Michigan competitive, while also giving a break to the citizens.
