Winston finds another level in leading MSU to statement win against U-M

Cassius Winston was key in Michigan State's three game sweep of rival Michigan last season. Somehow, the senior point guard came up even bigger in Sunday's blowout win against the visiting Wolverines. Winston scored a career high 32 points and dished out nine assists in the 87-69 victory. MSU coach Tom Izzo didn't hold back his praise afterward: "It was one of the greater performances that this building has seen." MORE

Some areas are already in 'extreme' category; others not so much

Winter has gotten off to a bit of a slow start in most of the lower peninsula. But ask folks in the western upper peninsula how their winter is going. Then give 'em a few minutes to respond as they go shovel off the nearest cell phone tower. So, yeah, early results on winter in the state are mixed. MLive chief meteorologist Mark Torregrossa has a handy tool for tracking the severity of winter in your area. MORE

Michigan congressmen ask Supreme Court to reconsider Roe vs. Wade

More than 200 members of Congress last week signed on to a brief that asks the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider the ruling that legalized abortion. Michigan's Republican representation in Washington added their names to the cause. All, that is, except U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph. MORE

5 quarterbacks the Lions could target in the draft
hat
Did the Detroit Lions just inadvertently tank for Tua? It may seem a preposterous idea. The Lions already have Matthew Stafford in the fold, and he's expected to bounce back after an injury-shortened season. But a top-3 overall draft pick and a talent like Tua Tagovailoa (who also has injuries to overcome and has yet to declare for the draft) don't come along too often. Crazier things have happened, though. This franchise has drafted two tight ends in the first round in two of the past six drafts! MORE

DNR camera project shows century of changes in state's woods

Here's an excerpt from life and culture reporter Emily Bingham's latest post: "As a novelty, the Camera Point Project is like a fascinating flip book, showing forests swallowing fields and fire trails... But from a deeper perspective, the collection offers a long-view look at the often imperceptible life of a forest -- and the relationship between ourselves and the outdoors."
