Old Wolverine tannery site in Rockford getting renewed interest from EPA
The Environmental Protection Agency is back on the ground in Rockford with federal contamination testing to resume this month on a former  Wolverine World Wide tannery site along the banks of the Rogue River. The EPA left the site five years ago in the hands of state control. However, the recent discovery of high PFAS levels at the 15-acre tannery site and at former Wolverine sludge dumping sites in Kent County drew the EPA's attention. The tannery was razed in 2010, and the site was capped. It since has been an informal community green space used for downtown events. MORE
