 Last summer, the state of Michigan approved the development of outdoor social districts for the first time, allowing patrons to legally purchase and consume alcoholic beverages in approved areas outside. The move was in response to the pandemic shutdowns of indoor dining, and has since proved so popular that many cities are considering making these districts permanent. The utility is starting its Summer Peak Rate today, raising the cost per unit of electricity by 50% from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays through the end of September. Consumers expects customers will only pay about $2 extra per month because of the change. Warm summer afternoons are when energy is used most. Consumers wants to discourage energy usage at those peak times so it doesn’t have to build more power plants to meet demand, Greg Stevenson – Consumers director of summer peak rates – told MLive in early May. READ  Years since human bones were found in Saginaw County, investigators are no closer to learning whose they had been. Adding insult to injury, investigators don’t know why DNA analysis of the bones has not yet been done, or how they can reclaim the bones to try a different tack. “This has been the most disappointing case that I’ve ever been involved with,” said Sheriff William L. Federspiel. “It’s going on three years.” The bones in question were found in a wooded area of southwestern Saginaw County in September 2018. MORE
 Michigan’s baseball team is in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. The field of 64 was announced Monday afternoon on ESPN2, and the Wolverines were one of the last four teams in, according to the selection committee. Michigan received a No. 3 seed in the South Bend, Indiana Regional and open against No. 2 seed UConn at 7 p.m. Friday after No. 1 seed Notre Dame and No. 4 seed Central Michigan square off at 1 p.m. The Chippewas earned an automatic bid by winning the Mid-American Conference. Now that gatherings are once again being held, many Michigan communities marked Memorial Day yesterday with those parades and ceremonies that were missed in 2020. In the West Michigan community of Jenison, residents lined the streets to watch decorated cars, veterans and others march for the holiday.
