| | | | From virtual assistants to real-time voice translators, voice-activation is becoming the norm — there’s just one problem.
To work well for all, this tech needs data from a range of voices – which most major companies aren’t motivated to collect. This means that some voices — like those of women, people of colour, second-language users, and those with regional accents — simply aren’t being heard.
Our Common Voice project is changing that. Nearly 500,000 people from around the world have lent their voice to help build software that works for everyone – but we could make it even better if we had yours.
We're on a mission to make voice-activated tech accessible to all — and we need your voice to do it. Will you take 2 minutes to record your voice today? If you're from one of these underrepresented groups, you likely understand the problem first-hand. Trying to use voice-controlled tech can be a frustrating, even marginalising experience. And if you’re trying to talk to your bank, or calling for medical assistance, the consequences can be dire.
Right now only a handful of companies have the power to create voice-activated tech. To change that, we’re building a more representative voice data set — and contributing is as simple as recording five short sentences.
And as always, Mozilla is committed to protecting your privacy. When we release the dataset, we make sure it doesn't contain any of your personally identifying information.
If you believe that every voice should be understood on the internet, donate yours today. Record your voice in just 2 minutes: Voice-activation has the potential to revolutionize how we interact with technology. But only if it works for all of us.
Together we can build our own bank of data, and make sure everyone’s voice is included. Add yours today in just a few minutes.
Hoping to hear from you soon!
