| | | | | Hi there, What do tech, opera, AI, and community have in common? MozFest! We harness the collective power of unexpected partnerships to disrupt the status quo and reframe and reimagine our online world. Here are a few examples of how we’re doing that next week. That’s right — our festival begins Monday! (Don’t have your ticket yet? Get yours today!) Parable of the Sower This year, we’re creating immersive experiences throughout the festival that draw from Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower. It’s a story about change, seeding new worlds, and developing systems to mitigate the loss of freedom people face when technology, policy, and economics are consolidated and weaponized. These exciting experiences include: our artistic collaborator, Toshi Reagon, joining the opening circle with a sonic offering. Toshi is the co-creator, composer, librettist and musical director of Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower — An Opera, which she created with her mother Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon. the MozFest Science Fair, where an experimental and interactive imagining of the Parable narrative will come to life. This interactive experience will celebrate themes of sustainability, decolonization, planting seeds, and emergence through projects that propose possibilities for our shared future and the technologies that will get us there. a Dialogues and Debates panel on Building Ancestral AI, featuring Toshi Reagon, Amelia Winger-Bearskin, Céline Semaan, L. Franklin Gilliam, and J. Bob Alotta. Panelists will discuss how cultural traditions and ancestral technologies can help shape the present and future. MisinfoCon This year, your MozFest ticket gets you access to two festivals! MisinfoCon is a global online summit, hosted on the MozFest Plaza, that will focus on the challenges that misinformation raises for the information ecosystem, government, and platforms in four areas: trust, content moderation and democratic speech, election, and regulating disinformation. MozFest Zine Fair For the first time-ever, MozFest will be hosting a Zine Fair on MozFest’s social platform, Spatial Chat. You’ll be able to explore a 2-D space, read digital zines, and meet and talk with other zine enthusiasts and newcomers from our global community, all to the soundtrack of a DJ/VJ!
