Good morning, it’s Friday. Here’s what you need to know to start your day.

This weekend’s forecast is complicated. A strong winter storm is coming for us between Friday and Monday morning. Strong winds and precipitation are the near-certainties. But what meteorologists don’t know are the storm’s path and what type of precipitation it’ll bring depends on the temperature. So, be careful with planning any weekend getaways. Some 250 Minneapolis residents are without a home. If you want to help people displaced by the Drake Hotel fire, here’s an article outlining how you can make donations

Here’s how a food desert is playing out in a rural Minnesota town. Reporter Hannah Yang looks at the town of Butterfield, where fewer than 600 people live. They haven’t had a grocery store for a decade, forcing people to rely on a gas station for basic items or requiring travel that can be difficult for older people. But the new owners of the town’s hardware store have begun selling groceries, a sign of resilience for Butterfield.

Why should we get out of the left lane? While the new hands-free driving law got most of the attention in MInnesota, one reader had a question about the “left lane” or “slowpoke” law. This one’s more complicated than the hands-free law and Matt Mikus dives into an explanation for the latest edition of Ask a ‘sotan

And as always, send us your Minnesota questions. Ask a ‘sotan is driven by you. Send questions for a future topic  here
