Good morning and happy first Friday of 2020. Here’s what you need to know to start your day. 


Cold but peaceful weekend weather. While temps this weekend are headed back down to the 20s and 30s we won’t have to deal with nearly as much precipitation as the last few. We’ll see highs in the 20s Saturday afternoon across most of the state. Sunday highs reach the 30s in southern and central Minnesota, with 20s in the far north. Not too bad for a Minnesota winter! Iran has vowed "harsh retaliation" for a U.S. airstrike near Baghdad's airport that killed Tehran's top genera l and the architect of its interventions across the Middle East, as tensions soared in the wake of the targeted killing. The killing of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's elite Quds Force, marks a major escalation in the standoff between Washington and Iran, which has careened from one crisis to another since President Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and imposed crippling sanctions. Quadrantids meteor shower may put on a show Saturday morning. You may want to plan a midday nap or at least have some coffee ready so you can catch the Quadrantids meteor shower, which is expected to peak around 2:20 a.m. Central Time on Saturday.

Eelpout Festival canceled over rising costs, garbage

Klobuchar raises $11.4M in last quarter for presidential bid

Democrat Amy Klobuchar said Friday that she raised $11.4 million for her presidential bid in the final three months of last year, the best fundraising quarter of the Minnesota senator's 2020 campaign but significantly less than all of her top rivals.
