Good morning and welcome to a fresh week in a fresh year. Here’s what you need to know to start your day. 


Mild, and maybe some snow at night. The Twin Cities will have highs in the lower 30s and winds between 10 and 15 mph, with a chance of snow at night and lows in the lower 20s. The Vikings had a major upset victory in the NFL playoffs. And after besting the New Orleans Saints in overtime, they’ll face the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers next weekend in California. 


Minnesota’s Liberian community had reason to celebrate this weekend.  As Joey Peters reports for the Sahan Journal, a new federal law opens a path for permanent residency in the U.S. for Liberian immigrants, many of whom had previously feared deportation just a year ago.
