College basketball fans gathered around their TVs, laptops and/or cell phones last night as the 68-team field was announced for the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Michigan State and Michigan faithful now know the path their respective teams must take to reach the Final Four in San Antonio for a shot at a national title. The rest of us get to waste work time this week filling out our bracket(s). DEQ ignored warning on Wolverine dump, now toddler's blood is loaded with PFAS
 
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality was warned it needed to extend its testing area for toxic chemicals associated with Wolverine World Wide's old tannery dump. However, emails obtained by MLive reporter Garret Ellison show the DEQ did not act on the warning for months. Jack McNaughton lives in one of the houses the DEQ was slow to test. He is nearly 2 years old and PFAS recently registered in his blood at an astounding 484,000-ppt. MORE

Robbery suspect shot by police dies in Jackson hospital
 
Police officers Sunday shot and killed a man identified as a suspect in an armed robbery near Jackson. Kenneth Scott Townley, a 47-year-old possibly homeless man just released from jail, died during surgery at Henry Ford Allegiance Health. Witnesses said Townley raised a gun and failed to heed repeated commands by police to drop the weapon.
