Sad news over the weekend as more than 30 tornadoes ripped though parts of the South and Midwest, killing dozens and devastating many more. One mega twister had a path of about 200 miles, one of the longest in recorded history. The largest death toll comes in Mayfield, Kentucky, with additional deaths in Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri. Red Cross volunteers from Utah are on their way to help. - The following schools in the Box Elder school district have been moved online today because of threats received this weekend: Century Elementary, McKinley Elementary, North Park Elementary, Garland Elementary, Fielding Elementary, Harris Intermediate, Bear River Middle School, Bear River High School

News Releases Salt Lake Rotary kicks off $100,000 fundraiser for resettlement of Afghan refugees in Utah Utah will become home to more than 800 Afghan refugees this holiday season and stretching into the new year. Salt Lake Rotary Club has committed $25,000 to help meet the short and long term needs of these 150+ families with children and is asking every Utah Rotary Club and Utah Rotarian to donate to match these funds. There is a further match challenge that will raise the goal to $100,000 for this project. Salt Lake Rotary Club has established a committee to liaise with the 48 other Utah Rotary Clubs, The Afghan Community Fund of The Community Foundation of Utah, Catholic Community Services of Utah, the International Rescue Committee, the Utah Muslim Civic League to bolster fundraising and track donations toward their goal made through this appeal. âWe are partnering with the Community Foundation of Utah, Rotarians and the public to raise funds for the Utah Afghan Community Fund. We are hopeful that contributions will match (double) the amount raised by the Utah Rotary community for a total goal of $100,000â said Scott Rosenbush, President of Salt Lake City Rotary Club 24. Mayor Wilson releases statement on Salt Lake Countyâs decision to amend canyon ordinance related to mineral extraction On Friday, December 10 Salt Lake County Council voted in a special meeting to begin the process to amend a section of the County code to eliminate mineral extraction and processing as a conditional use in forestry and recreation zones. Current Chair Chad Westover, CEO of University of Utah Health Plans, has completed his term and will remain on the Executive Board as Immediate Past Chair. Vice Chair Dan Eldredge is retiring from his position as General Manager with the Intermountain Power Agency and is departing Utah Foundationâs board.
