Murder conviction in LSU player's death

with Matthew Albright| Assistant metro editor

In 2018, LSU basketball player Wayde Sims was shot to death during a bar fight in Baton Rouge, causing a flood of sympathy and outrage. Yesterday, a man was convicted of second degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence.

Here's what the arguments in court were, and how Sims' family and coaches responded to the verdict.

It seemed clear that the board of the Capital Area Transit System went into a meeting last night intending to fire the bus system's CEO. But then someone raised the question of whether the board could rightly fire him for cause, and confusion ensued.

The board ended up stripping the CEO of his title and responsibilities, but not firing him. So it seems — for now at least — that he's going too stay on the payroll with no real job description.

We're going to be staying on this story for more on what that decision means for taxpayers and Baton Rouge public transit.

A woman was driving with her 11 kids in the car when she ran off the road. The car rolled multiple times before coming to a rest on its side.

The mom and three of the kids were brought to the hospital, but they all survived. She now faces 11 counts of cruelty to a juvenile.
