To every thing there is a season… Going through a pandemic has given me a list of things in which to be thankful. You probably have a list of your own. If this crisis has taught me anything, it is how things can change very quickly for anyone. Our homeless friends know this all too well. Your prayer support and notes of encouragement during this incredible time of change has been so uplifting to me personally. Night after night, clients could be heard saying how grateful they were that we had a temporary shelter in operation during the Coldest Nights of the year. I am passing that thanks on to you because we were able to do what we did with your support. This season, we surpassed 3000 individual nightly stays. To put that in perspective, we typically average 800 individual nightly stays in a Coldest Nights season. This unique challenge came as donations were down and the demand for services were up. Again, a heart-felt thank you for doing your part. Beat the Heat Less than two weeks after closing the doors to the Coldest Nights shelters, we are seeing our first temperatures in the seventies. In approximately two to three more weeks we will begin to see temperatures soar to the 90’s. This is the start of what we call our Beat the Heat campaign. This is our summer program where we take to the streets armed with coolers of ice-cold bottles of water to give to men and women on the streets. We anticipate passing out somewhere between 750 to 1000 bottles of water this season. Campaign news Last month, we asked for donations and volunteers to help with our capital campaign and the response we got was nothing short of amazing. We went from five to twenty thousand in less than two months. Others of you have joined one of our teams to help raise funds. If you have not responded, please do. We still need your help. Please, please, keep praying. Prayer is the wind in our sails that moves us forward. Mark your calendars MRM’s annual yard sale is set for June 11 and 12, 2021. Parade of Partners fundraiser featuring Christian comedian Peppi Garrett is back on for September 16, 2021. Please plan to attend. We believe this will be an exciting time for all who come. |
