Good morning. ☁️ Today, A ProPublica report found that museums and universities across the country still hold the remains of tens of thousands of Native Americans. That's in violation of the 1990 Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and in stark contrast to these institutions' lofty proclamations of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Today we speak with ProPublica's research team about their findings and about the institutional failings and legal loopholes that have sustained this colonial violence.

And in tragic proximity to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the site of the original Juneteenth museum in Fort Worth, Texas, was consumed by a fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt, nor were the artifacts, which had already been moved to a new location.

Also today, film director Todd Haynes sits with Hyperallergic for an interview to discuss his new documentary The Velvet Underground alongside a review of artist Barbara Chase-Riboud's recently released memoir, and more.
