‘2020, what the actual f*ck!?’ It’s a sentiment a lot of us would have felt during the past six months. It’s the way Ben Folds feels in ‘2020’, his new single that captures how this year has felt like the longest of our lives. (More on that below.)
‘…We’re just halfway done’ he sings ominously.
Who knows what fresh hell the next six months is going to bring? But whether that prospect makes you optimistic or fills you with dread, it’s important to check in with each other, and ourselves, over how we might be coping with it all. We could all benefit from a little more kindness and empathy right now.
At least when times are tough, we can always turn to music and its deathless power to move us. A salve when we’re sad, a respite when we’re overwhelmed, or simply a sonic enhancer when times are good. So, keep it simple. Grab your player of choice, turn the volume way up and remember, just like a good record, the world keeps spinning |
