Just when you feel you have a handle on the power of music, something happens. I didn't need reminding of what music can do, but my first trip to WOMADelaide was a reminder that it can fulfil you in new and exciting ways. As we stare down the barrel of potentially heightened xenophobia thanks to this damn virus, it doesn't hurt to remember that we are just a small part of a big world. But that our actions, our words and our stories truly matter. If you're feeling down about the world (and you've got a spare hour) go and find an artist you've never heard from a country you've never been to. Listen to their music, read their story, learn about a culture you never knew about. I promise it'll help you personally, and it'll help the world. If we all try and make a tiny difference, it might have a big impact. |
