Happy Sunday! ⚾️ Yankees cap Woo-hoo! My beloved New York Yankees made it back to the World Series! The last time was in 2009 and I was at Game 6 when they clinched the win. If you're a longtime reader, then you probably know that I wear my Yankees cap most of the time to protect my head and face from the sun (in 2014, I had skin cancer). In the mornings, I wear my cap to quickly cover up my bed head and in the evenings, it covers up my receding hairline. Plus, my wife says she loves my Yankees cap on me above all the rest.
Whenever I travel, the sports team hat I see the most frequently, without question, is the NYY and it's everywhere. However, rarely does anyone say anything to me. But this past week, with the playoffs going on, I can't walk down the streets of Los Angeles without someone saying something. Mostly it's been Dodgers fans, hoping we get to face each other in the World Series (you know all the MLB executives are hoping for that too, since both ratings and ticket prices will be at an all-time high). So if you're looking for an ice breaker, just put on a Yankees cap!
✈︎ Smooth travel week There's a lot of travel news this week and for the most part it's been a smooth week of travel. Very few cancelations -- especially compared to last week.
Save $50 on your first Flytographer photo shoot We are planning an adventure over Thanksgiving next month and my wife has just booked our annual Flytographer photo shoot in a soon-to-be-disclosed location. Over the years, we've written about Flytographer many times. If you're unfamiliar with Flytographer, you can read more here, but they are a vacation photography company that we are big fans of. The family photos we have from all over the world (the photo above was shot by Roberta for Flytographer in Rome) are our most cherished souvenirs. So, if you're planning some holiday travels yourself or are looking for a great gift idea, consider a Flytographer photo shoot or a gift card for a loved one. From now until the end of October, you can get $50 off your first purchase using the code JOHNNYJET50. Click here to book.

Limited time deal: 25% off the sleep mask I never travel without You may recall me recommending this game-changing sleep mask back in the summer when my mother-in-law bought it for me due to the, umm, extreme sunniness of her place. I admit, I'm a sensitive sleeper and even the slightest bit of light can disturb my slumber. Not anymore, thanks to this sleep mask. It's not only great for travel but for naps and nighttime at home. My wife has been sick and she's been wearing hers every day for comfort and improved sleep. It's currently 25% off so check it out here. |

🏞️ Monday Central Park lamp posts have a secret code so you'll never get lost again I lived in New York City for a while and visited Central Park frequently. But in all my years going to the park, I've never heard this tip before and it's a really helpful and interesting one about the secret GPS system used throughout the park's lamp posts. Whether you're a New York City native or are planning to visit, you'll want to check this out. Read the story here. |

🤧 Tuesday 🤧 You can now order free Covid tests from the government My wife Natalie is home sick and when she tested at home for Covid (she's negative), I was reminded of something that's been on my to-do list: Order more Covid tests. The U.S. government recently announced that every U.S. household is eligible to order 4 free at-home tests. I had made a note to myself to order them the day they made the announcement but realize now that it actually took longer to write down “order more free Covid tests” than it took to actually order them. Here's how to get them. |

🚗 Wednesday Must-know car hack: How to open your car windows before you even get in I recently learned this car hack that I think everyone should know about. Initially, I wasn’t sure if everyone already knew this and I was only just finding out about it. So I asked a group of parents at my kids’ school if they new the trick (just to make sure I didn’t look like a buffoon writing about it). When I showed them, they all said, “No way! That’s awesome!” And they ran to their cars to try it for themselves. It worked for everyone but one. Here's the trick. |

Groom surprises new wife with wedding reception on New York City subway Here’s something I’ve never seen before and I bet you haven’t either. And judging by the comments, most people don’t really want to see it again since New York City subways are already too crowded. The caption of the video is: “Brooklyn newlyweds decided to have their wedding reception on the L train. All were welcome, including riders dressed up as Spider-Man and a gorilla.” This caption alone is pretty compelling and would make most people check out the short video.

But this poor passenger’s experience really takes the cake. Watch the video and read her story here.

🧵 TRAVEL THREAD OF THE DAY @victoriawestx: The way paying a bill at a restaurant works in the US is wild to me - why do you take the card? In Canada they bring you the cheque and then the debit/credit machine to pay, and you put in the tip yourself on there. A written section for tip and letting someone take your card just feels so unsafe to me. |
