My favourite - and most frustrating - story of the day has to be the reply from the Governor of the Bank of England when asked how much he earns.

When Andrew Bailey was asked for a figure during an appearance before the Treasury Select Committee. he said that he ‘did not carry that around in my head.’

And there in a nutshell is how the other half lives.

When you have more than enough money that you don’t need to worry, it is not imperative that you understand just how much you have or earn at any given time.

But, Mr Bailey, it is not the same for everyone and if you want to make the best decisions for the country, you need to have at least some grasp of how most household finances work.

The vast majority of people in this country know EXACTLY how much money is coming into (and going out of) their bank accounts every month....because almost every penny is accounted for in one way or another.

And by the way, in case you were wondering, Mr Bailey earns an eye-watering package of £575,000 a year. Nice work if you can get it.

Until next time, take care,

Gillian
