This spring about 100 growers in New York started shipping corn and soybeans to Europe and Africa, via the Great Lakes Seaway system.

Fertilizer prices fell yesterday, with nitrogen prices dropping 30%, partly due to demand destruction. The decrease is welcome after a recent report by the Agricultural and Food Policy Center at Texas A&M University shows higher input prices are having a larger impact on farmers than originally thought.

“The more tech we can develop to allow farmers to get productivity out of their land without having to spend so much money on fertilizer and inputs, the better off everybody is,” says John Deere's Julian Sanchez.
