Prevent turf conflicts by developing communication skills

This week, CRC Daily covers the medical staff services department. Even in the greatest hospitals and systems, communication is a challenge, and care can be segmented. As an MSP, you have the opportunity to act as an advocate for your medical staff. In your discussions with physicians or hospital employees about initiatives that are starting, make it a point to suggest physician involvement and communication. One of the best ways to resolve turf conflicts is to prevent them.

Navigating the laws and benefits of telemedicine

This is the first year that all 50 states have adopted some form of telemedicine coverage. Telemedicine is the remote diagnosis and treatment of patients using an audiovisual platform—a doctor’s appointment over Skype, remotely monitoring a patient’s vitals, messaging pictures of rashes and illnesses, etc. And while certain issues will still require an in-person examination (e.g., setting a broken arm), telemedicine is opening several new options for treatment.

Why Apply to the 2018 CRC Contests?

To recognize and encourage strong medical staff leadership.

“Engaging active medical staff in governance of the medical staff is key to patient safety and innovative medical staffs. Recognition of these providers by a national group addresses these issues, encourages involvement, and validates the work of these providers. I felt honored by this recognition and feel it will encourage continued involvement by younger providers in medical staff governance.”

James J. Fitzgibbon, MD, FAAP, winner of the 2017 Medical Staff Leader of the Year award and member of the 2018 CRC Contest Committee
