Announcements Director's Message from Helene M. Langevin, M.D. February 19, 2024
In a new commentary in Nature Medicine, all of us in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) leadership invite all of you in the research community to take advantage of the extraordinary resources made available by NIHâs All of Us Research Program. Like several other population-based programs, All of Us is collecting extensive genomic and health data from large numbers of volunteers. However, the All of Us Research Program has the unique advantage of a highly diverse group of participants, half of whom are of non-European genetic ancestry. The diversity of the All of Us cohort enables discoveries to be made that would not be possible with more narrowly focused datasets. By leveraging All of Us, we can advance precision medicine for all populations.  | A single 2-hour pain relief skills class continues to reduce pain catastrophizing, pain intensity, and pain bothersomeness in people with chronic low-back pain after 6 months and is no less effective than an 8-session cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program, according to a study from Stanford University, partly funded by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. These results, published in the journal Pain Reports, extend the findings of a 3-month evaluation and show that the effects of the pain skills class donât deteriorate significantly from 3 to 6 months.  | NCCIH is please to announce that Miroslav âMishaâ BaÄkonja, M.D., has been appointed the new NCCIH Clinical Director. For nearly two years, he has expertly served NCCIH as the Acting Clinical Director while also fulfilling his responsibilities as the Supervisory Clinical Physician, making him an ideal leader for our clinical research activities in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR).  Resources for Researchers  Upcoming Events February 29, 2024, 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET; Virtual This webinar brings together current Early Independence awardees and provides an opportunity to ask questions to a panel about grant management, managing a lab, when and how to apply for NIH funding, and more.
