NDF Board approves funding for the NDC Pipeline Accelerator The board of NDF has given the green light to replenish the Inter-American Development Bank’s NDC Pipeline Accelerator trust fund with grant financing of EUR 10 million to support countries in the Latin America and the Carribean. NDF was the anchor donor that helped the establishment of the NDC Pipeline Accelerator Fund back in 2017 and is committed to continue co-funding the Accelerator as it has performed well and delivered good results in leveraging public and private resources for climate investments. The Accelerator aims at helping the Latin American and the Caribbean countries to achieve their NDCs and long-term objectives of becoming climate-resilient and carbon neutral. |

Already 26 countries get support for early warnings through SOFF Strengthening climate and weather information services is crucial to the impacts of climate change. The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) is an important multi-donor initiative addressing the problem. In just one year, USD 72 million has been pledged to SOFF and it keeps attracting new donors. “I am proud of NDF’s role as an anchor donor and having substantially contributed to the design of SOFF. It is a truly innovative fund, financing a global public good in a new and systematic way. In one year, already 26 countries are receiving support," said Karin Isaksson, Managing Director of NDF in the SOFF Steering Committee meeting in June. |

Coastal areas in West Africa tackle plastic pollution West African countries generated 6.9 million tons of plastic waste in 2018. Of this, 20% was produced within 30 km of the coast, with most of it ending up in the ocean. West African Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA), funded by NDF and partners, is acting to find solutions to this challenge. To put an end to the plastic waste problem, WACA commissioned a series of reports on the impacts of plastic pollution, opportunities for a circular economy, the management of end-of-life Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles in Senegal. They also published an e-book with resources to help people take concrete action and a Synthesis report about about plastic pollution in coastal West Africa. |

Dar es Salaam aims to become a sustainable megacity NDF provided five million euros in funding to a development project financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Government of Tanzania. The project helped build urban resilience as well as mitigate and adapt to climate change. “NDF is a ‘super donor’ when it comes to these types of green projects. Their funding allowed us to better understand how green spaces can reduce flooding and erosion, so we could develop guidelines how greening should be a part of infrastructure. This can be used to green roadsides, bike paths or drainage canals. These ideas are now mainstream for the second phase of the project,” says John Morton from the World Bank. |
