Projects in Southeast Asia got a power start The Project Readiness Improvement Trust Fund (PRIF), co-financed by NDF and led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) speeds up the preparatory phase of much-needed development projects in five countries in Southeast Asia. The results look promising. With support from PRIF, the projects seem to kick off much faster than before. PRIF has helped critical early-stage tasks get completed quickly and correctly so the ensuing projects could be implemented faster. NDF was one of the founding members and provided a EUR 7 million grant. These projects also attracted co-financing from other development partners; about EUR 2 billion of climate friendly investments are now in various stages of implementation. "We are very pleased with the results of PRIF. Our colleagues in the Central and West Asia department are looking at the possibility of doing a similar initiative using the PRIF as a good example,” says Alely Alejar-Bernando from Asian Development Bank. |

SOFF presents a solution for early warnings at UN General Assembly The 78th UN General Assembly, took place in New York, and gathered the international community to find solutions to global pressing challenges, emphasizing on the urgency of climate action. NDF engaged in high-level discussions relating to climate finance and development, namely to the event organized in the context of the Early Warnings for All initiative (EW4All). The event highlighted the Systematic Observation Financing Facility (SOFF), that was established to deliver results for EW4All. “Investing in SOFF means investing in global public goods as it provides benefits leading to local, regional, and global positive impact and we are proud to have embarked on this journey as the first financier. As a member of the EW4All Advisory Panel and Co-Chair of the SOFF Steering Committee, we invite financiers to act now, to invest in SOFF to provide the data needed, to build early warnings for all and to save lives,” says Karin Isaksson, Managing Director of NDF. |

IT'S POSSIBLE! The next decade is critical to the increasingly complex challenge: the climate crisis. It is crucial to find solutions and to form successful partnerships that can support the global climate agenda. NDF's Deputy Managing Director Leena Klossner was invited to the podcast IT'S POSSIBLE / ES POSIBLE' by the Inter-American Development Bank, NDF's long-standing partner. This episode talks about concessional resources to accelerate climate action. As a good example, the episode features the NDF Pipeline Accelerator Multi-Donor Trust Fund, where NDF was an anchor investor, and recently made a second significant contribution to the Fund. "NDC Pipeline Accelerator is a true gem in the NDF portfolio. We came in at the early stage, provided booster financing and co-created the scope together with IDB. I strongly felt that we are in it together," says Leena. "One of the strengths of the project was that we did a proper crunching together of the impact and results of the first phase and only then embarked on the second stage. Youth Day with EEP Africa According to International Labour Organization, the green transition will result in the creation of 8.4 million green jobs for young people by 2030. The clean energy sector has high potential to create jobs and sustainable livelihoods for youth in Africa. EEP Africa supports projects that contribute to youth empowerment, job creation and green skills, and that open new pathways for growth for current and future generations. Since 2010, projects financed by EEP Africa have resulted in 11,600 direct jobs created in the clean energy sector in Southern and Eastern Africa, including more than 5,300 jobs for youth. These projects provide skills and experience that are enabling young people in Africa to build long-term careers and to thrive in the green economy.

Ole Stubdrup, Program Manager Ole comes with over 25 years of experience from development and financing in the private and public sectors, focusing on the nexus of water and climate change adaptation. He has been involved in the identification, development and management of projects and programmes primarily in Africa and Latin America. Before joining NDF, he worked in the African Development Bank with a focus on the development and operationalisation of the Urban and Municipal Development Fund which NDF also has an active role in as a financier. |

Veronika Konnos, Office Assistant Veronika joins as an Office Assistant to the Legal & Administration department of NDF. Veronika is a Finnish national, who has a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the University of Helsinki and who currently studies Information and Service Management (business analytics) at Aalto University. |

Teemu Blomqvist, Program Officer Teemu Blomqvist started as a Program Officer at NDF. Teemu brings 7 years of experience in institutional asset management to the table. He holds a Master's degree in Economics and Business Administration with a major in Finance and is a Level 3 CFA candidate. Teemu began his career in 2016 at BlackRock Institutional Client Business unit based in Copenhagen. In 2018, he returned to Finland and joined the eQ Private Equity team. |
