Nephron to add non-respiratory drug to portfolio

West-Columbia based Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corp. received FDA approval for its abbreviated new drug application for Ketorolac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve pain. Earlier this year, the company received approval for Sodium Chloride IV intravenous bags.

DHEC selects health care CEO as new director

Dr. Edward Simmer has been selected from among 83 applicants to lead the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. The announcement comes as Gov. Henry McMaster, who must approve the selection, tested positive for COVID-19. 

Benedict College named top producer of STEM graduates

The Columbia college was recognized as a Top 10 Smaller HBCU for STEM by The Hundred-Seven website. Benedict was one of four S.C. schools to make the list, compiled by evaluating data from news magazine Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
