#1 Netflix Q1 Subscriber Growth Falls Short of Estimates
Netflix released its quarterly earnings report at market close today. While the companys revenue was in line with analysts expectations, the company came up about 200,000 subscribers short on its internal projections. The company grew its worldwide paid subscriber base by 5 million, but had forecast an increase of 5.2 million subscribers in the quarter, after adding 7.1 million last quarter.
WHY THIS MATTERS: The total Netflix subscriber count at the end of the quarter was 98.75 million, with 1.42 million U.S. additions and 3.53 million international.

#2 Study: Social TV Alive and Well
According to a new survey of U.S. consumers by Ring Digital, 23.9% of adult U.S. Internet users engaged in social TV behavior in the last month, meaning they have used a social platform to vote, post, share or otherwise comment on their TV-viewing activities.
WHY THIS MATTERS: The study, Ring Digitals sixth Social TV Index over a span of three years, found that theres some room for growth, as 13% said they have thought about engaging in social TV behavior, while 62.9% said they have not, based on a sample size of 841. Among individual platforms, Facebook (71.6%) was the most popular for TV-related social media actions, followed by YouTube (33.8%), Instagram (32%), Snapchat (29%), Twitter (23.5%), and Tumblr (7.1%).

#3 Canoe Reports 21% Increase in VOD Ad Impressions
According to a new report from Canoe, video-on-demand ad impressions rose to nearly 5 billion during the first quarter, up 21% from 4.133 billion in the first quarter of 2016.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Canoe, which is owned by Comcast, Cox Communications and Charter Communications, handles VOD dynamic ad insertion when shows from national TV networks run on MVPDs VOD platforms. For the full year ended in 2016, Canoe delivered 17.9 billion advertising impressions compared to 11.8 billion in 2015 and 6.3 billion in 2014.
