#1   Netflix Stock Tumbles on Weak Subscriber Growth
    Netflix stock fell by as much as 15% to $83.80 in after-hours trading after the company’s second quarter earnings report revealed that it had missed its own guidance for subscriber numbers, despite beating earnings expectations.
Why This Matters: Netflix added 1.7 million subscribers during the quarter, but it had forecast a gain of 2.5 million. The company grew by 160,000 subscribers in the U.S. market, down from its guidance of 500,000, and 1.5 million subscribers abroad, down from its 2 million forecast. The streamer posted earnings of $41 million, or 9 cents per share, on overall revenues at $1.96 billion, beating an analyst forecast of 3 cents per share for the quarter.

#2   Canada's Shaw Communications to Roll Out X1 Set-Tops in 2016
    Canadian cable operator Shaw Communications announced that it will begin deploying white-label X1 set-tops to its subscribers this year. The company, which has licensed the platform from Comcast, hopes to have the platform fully deployed across its footprint by the end of 2017.
Why This Matters: The deployment follows what Shaw described as the successful launch in January of FreeRange TV, a multiscreen app built on X1 cloud technology.

#3   Netflix Secures International Rights CBS’ New Star Trek
    Netflix has secured the rights to carry episodes of CBS’ new Star Trek series outside of the U.S., where it will appear on CBS All Access, and Canada, where it will be on Bell Media.
Why This Matters: The streaming giant will offer the show exclusively in 188 countries, 24 hours after their U.S. premiere. Netflix will also get the streaming rights to all 727 episodes in the Star Trek TV library including Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise.
