Editorial Liebe Kolleg:innen, mit jeder Zeile, die wir Journalistinnen und Journalisten über einen Angriff im Wahlkampf schreiben, stellt sich die Frage, ob wir dadurch zu Nachahmungen inspirieren. Mit jedem Stück, das wir über die militante Rechtsextremisten-Szene schreiben, stellt sich die Frage, ob wir Möchtegern-Nazis damit nicht auch noch den Gefallen tun, sie groß und prominent zu machen. Das ging mir durch den Kopf, als ich Anfang Mai in der Redaktion saß und vom Angriff auf die Grünen-Politikerin Katrin Göring-Eckhardt erfuhr. Es war so absehbar, dass es Nachahmer geben würde. Vier davon waren dann daran beteiligt, in Dresden den SPD-Europapolitiker Matthias Ecke ins Krankenhaus zu prügeln. Die Medien haben weder Schuld an den Nachahmern, noch können sie sie verhindern. Das Berichten zu unterlassen, widerspräche nicht nur den journalistischen Grundsätzen, sondern liefe auch auf eine Verharmlosung raus. Die Gefahr, die von Rechtsextremen in Parlamenten und im gesellschaftlichen Umfeld ausgeht, ist zu groß. Und trotzdem hat praktisch jede Redaktion diese Diskussion schon einmal geführt. Der Spiegel-Titel vom 11. Mai macht aus Olaf Scholz (narrativ) eine Zielscheibe. Ist das nicht ein Motiv, das jeder Rechtsextreme sich als Bildschirmschoner einrichten möchte? Und die Woche drauf zeichnet sich dann auf der Spiegel-Titelseite das überdeckte Hakenkreuz in der deutschen Fahne ab. Wie viel Ehre will man Neonazis erweisen? Kein Spiegel-Bashing an dieser Stelle! Die Kolleginnen und Kollegen machen tolle Arbeit und setzen damit ja dankenswert klare Zeichen gegen Rechtsextremismus. Die Motive illustrieren nur den Grenzgang, den wir alle bewältigen müssen. Und ich gestehe, dass mich dabei ein mulmiges Gefühl beschleicht. Eure Barbara Junge |
Barbaras Tipps des Monats Das Zielscheiben-NarrativFür diejenigen, die den Spiegel-Titel nicht gesehen haben, gibt es hier noch einmal die Scholz-Coverstory des Magazins. Macht euch selbst einen Eindruck davon, wie das Cover auf euch wirkt. In der Geschichte setzen sich die Autor:innen dann insbesondere mit dem Täterumfeld in Sachsen auseinander und mit einer Jugendszene, in der so etwas gären kann. Sind die Neunziger wieder da?Eine Frage taucht im Kontext der Angriffe auf Politikerinnen und Politiker gerade in vielen Gesprächen auf: Kommen die Baseballschläger-Jahre wieder? Oder, wie es Christian Bangel in seinem Essay formuliert: Sind die Neunziger wieder da? Die Erinnerungen an diese Zeit sind schnell zu reaktivieren. Die Zeit war krass. Und jetzt schreibt der Kollege, die Angst gehe um – „vor allem im Osten, wo sie Erinnerungen an die düsteren Zeiten weckt, in denen der Baseballschläger regierte.“ Über Rechtsextreme redenMit der Fragestellung „Über Rechtsextreme reden?“ setzt sich auch das Center für Monitoring, Analyse und Strategie (CeMAS) auseinander und gibt Empfehlungen für die mediale Berichterstattung. Denn, wie die Autor:innen auch schreiben, wir setzen uns ja nicht das erste Mal mit der Fragestellung auseinander. In den Empfehlungen geht es unter anderem darum, rechtsextreme Ideologien und Milieus klar zu benennen, Inszenierungen zu unterbinden, Konsequenzen des Rechtsextremismus in den Fokus zu rücken – und als letztes: aus Fehlern zu lernen. |

NR-Videoreihe zu AuskunftsrechtenWie funktionieren Anfragen über das Informationsfreiheitsgesetz? Wie gut ist das Sächsische Transparenzgesetz? Zum Tag der Pressefreiheit startete unsere Auskunftsrechte-Videoreihe des Projekts „Fragen und Antworten – Auskunftsrechte kennen und nutzen“. Alle Videos gibt’s bei YouTube. Mit unseren Angeboten wollen wir Journalist:innen darin bestärken, ihre Auskunftsansprüche zu nutzen, und sie mit Werkzeugen und Ressourcen ausstatten. Ob Pressegenerator, Entscheidungsdatenbank oder Workshops: Journalist:innen, die ihre Auskunftsrechte kennen und nutzen, können die Öffentlichkeit (besser) informieren, Missstände aufdecken und Machtstrukturen hinterfragen. |
NR an Bord der „MS Wissenschaft“: Podiumsdiskussion in HamburgSeit mehr als 20 Jahren geht das Ausstellungsschiff „MS Wissenschaft“ im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung auf große Fahrt. Zum diesjährigen Wissenschaftsjahr „Freiheit“ wird es beim Halt in Hamburg an Deck eine Diskussionsrunde zum Thema „Freiheit navigieren – Wie schützen wir Wissenschafts-, Presse-, und Meinungsfreiheit?“ geben. Neben Wissenschaftler:innen aus der Medien- und Politikwissenschaft ist auch Netzwerk Recherche auf dem Podium vertreten. Der Eintritt zur Veranstaltung am 13. Juni ist frei. Argumente für die Auskunft: NR-Training zum InformationsrechtIm Vorfeld der NR-Jahrestagung findet am Donnerstag, dem 18. Juli, wieder ein halbtägiger Workshop statt, der sich ganz dem Auskunftsrecht widmet: Welche Infos bekommt man auf welcher rechtlichen Grundlage von den Behörden – und was tun, wenn sie mauern? Der Workshop, der von 13 bis 18 Uhr beim Spiegel stattfindet, ist offen für alle, die sich in diesem Feld weiterbilden wollen und die ein vertieftes Interesse am Thema haben. Webinar: Einführung in die OSINT-Recherche am Beispiel GeolocationOSINT-Recherche gilt inzwischen als essentiell für den Investigativjournalismus. Aber was bedeutet es eigentlich, mit „Open Source Intelligence“ zu recherchieren? Im Webinar am 18. Juni (von 13 bis 14:30 Uhr) gibt Johanna Wild vom international renommierten Recherchekollektiv Bellingcat eine Einführung in die Online-Recherche. Investigating War Crimes: GIJN veröffentlicht erstes E-BookDas Global Investigative Journalism Network ist unter anderem für seine Guides bekannt, die Tipps, Einblicke und Weiterbildung zu Recherchetechniken und verschiedensten Themen des Investigativjournalismus geben. In Erinnerung an John BonesWir trauern um John Bones. Der Geschäftsführer unseres norwegischen Schwesternverbandes, der Stiftelsen for en Kritisk og Undersøkende Presse (SKUP), ist am 13. Mai im Alter von 69 Jahren überraschend verstorben. Erst vor wenigen Monaten trafen wir ihn in Göteborg auf der Global Investigative Journalism Conference, auf der John immer ein gern gesehener Gast war. Es war bewundernswert, wie er stets Stipendien für Journalist:innen aus Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern organisierte, damit diese die Konferenz besuchen konnten – genauso wie seine herzliche und hilfsbereite Art. Für die norwegischen Kolleg:innen war er längst „Mr. Skup“, wie sie in ihrem Nachruf schreiben. God tur, kjære John! |
Anlaufstelle zum Schutz publizistischer Arbeit gestartetDie No-SLAPP-Anlaufstelle hat Mitte April ihre Arbeit aufgenommen, um Medienschaffende über ihre Rechte aufzuklären und sie bei der Verteidigung gegen SLAPP-Klagen zu unterstützen. An diesem Projekt sind eine Vielzahl von Organisationen beteiligt, bspw. „Reporter ohne Grenzen“ und FragDenStaat. Mehr Infos gibt es hier. |
Protest gegen MDR-SparpläneDie Intendanz des MDR erwägt Einsparungen in Höhe von 40 Millionen Euro pro Jahr, die insbesondere den Bereich des investigativen Journalismus betreffen. Die SZ spricht von der „Anatomie eines Knalls“ (€) wenige Monate vor den Landtagswahlen in drei ostdeutschen Bundesländern. In einem offenen Brief wenden sich Mitarbeiter:innen und Personen der Zivilgesellschaft gegen die geplanten Kürzungen. Sie mahnen, dass die journalistische Kompetenz des Programms und zahlreiche Arbeitsplätze auf dem Spiel stehen und fordern die Rücknahme der Sparpläne. Netzwerk Recherche warnt in einer eigenen Stellungnahme vor Einschnitten bei der investigativen Recherche. |
Wirtschaftsberichterstattung in ARD und ZDF: „Viel Kraft, wenig Biss“Die neue Studie der Otto Brenner Stiftung geht der Frage nach, ob die Wirtschaftsberichterstattung von ARD und ZDF den Ansprüchen genügt, qualitativ hochwertig und verständlich über den klimaneutralen, sozial gerechten und ökonomisch erforderlichen Umbau der Wirtschaft zu berichten. Dafür haben die Autoren knapp 5.800 Sendungen mitgeschnitten, analysiert und bewertet. In der Studie „Reklame für Klimakiller“, die Anfang des Monats erschienen ist, geht es darum, wie Fernseh- und YouTube-Werbung den Medienstaatsvertrag verletzt. |
