Oops. On this day in 1976 a red-faced ACT police force was admitting it had misplaced two revolvers. Deputy commissioner Reg Kennedy wouldn't say officially what had happened, but the newspaper's sources said the two weapons had gone missing after a high-speed chase that ended up in a Wanniassa Street. Nearby residents said the police had entered the house by the window but didn't have their guns with them. Someone it seemed decided to pick them up from where they'd left them and hightail it. Two days later the guns were recovered and a 23-year-old was charged with larceny. READ MORE
