Due to popular request, Deerfield Park District will now offer NEW After School Enrichment Programs at Jewett Park Community Center! Programs range from Chess Club to Performing Arts and Dance. Registration for new classes opens on Monday, November 28th, and bus service is available. View class descriptions below!

Bus transportation from District 109 Schools to Jewett Park Community Center will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Park District staff will greet students at schools at dismissal times and assist them in boarding of buses. Staff will then greet students at Jewett Park Community Center and direct them to their classrooms. 
NEW! Deerfield Performers Troupe: with Sarah Hall Theatre Company
Dedicated musical theater students will explore the wonderful world of theatre as they navigate their way through a unique production. This advanced class focuses on performance, teamwork, dramaturgy, and the purpose of performing. Students will share their full scale musical production of "Signin' in the Rain" at the end of the session. Acceptance into the troupe will be by director approval. All accepted troupe members are guaranteed a role in the production, but no particular role.

NEW!Broadway Bound: with Sarah Hall Theatre Company
Young actors will get the opportunity to audition, rehearse, and perform a Broadway Jr musical. With professional costumes, sets and sound, performers will feel like stars on Broadway! Auditions for the Spring 2017 musical production, ANNIE JR, will be held during the second class and performances will be held at Caruso Middle School. All students are guaranteed a role in the production, but no particular role. There will be a parent/student meeting required before auditions as well as an additional $45 set/costume fee. Join us for a fabulous experience that celebrates both the theatre process and product!

NEW!Little Footlighters: with Sarah Hall Theatre Company
Little Footlighters creates a safe and nurturing environment where students are free to explore and discover the magic of theatre while working individually and as an ensemble. Through improvisation, theatre games, and story theatre, students develop creativity and confidence both onstage and off! Although this class is primarily process driven, it will culminate in an in-class performance for family and friends.

Grades: K-2

NEW!Mini Footlighters: with Sarah Hall Theatre Company
Allow your mini thespian to discover the wonders of performance and play using their body, mind and imagination! Taught by Sarah Tilford, this NEW class will bring out the dramatic spirit of any preschooler & kindergartener through games and story theatre. Parents are invited to attend the final class for an informal, fun-filled class demonstration--a perfect fit for your little drama king or queen!

Voice Lessons
Do you love to sing? Would you like to improve your sound, learn proper form and techniques? Voice lessons are a great way to build confidence and poise. Each lesson will be tailored to meet your needs and goals. Madeline Morris, MM, Music Education, has been teaching and performing since 1997, and is a member of the Apollo Chorus of Chicago and a former voice student of Anne Marie Ouverson Bice of NU. Private and semi-private lessons are available.

Piano Lessons
Alice Rudin has a Master’s degree in music, a Major in Piano and 30 years of experience teaching piano to beginner through advanced students using traditional and Suzuki Methods. Private and semi-private lessons are available. Following registration instructor will contact you to set up a time.

Art Lessons
Artistic quality is within everyone and there are skills and techniques you can learn in order to express those qualities externally. Enjoy learning and expressing these skills while the artist within you comes alive. Elaine will introduce you to a variety of media including charcoal, pencil, watercolor, pen, ink and acrylic. You will also learn to observe your surroundings, use your imagination as you increase your
awareness of artistic concepts. Please provide your own 22” x 26” art portfolio.

Art Reunion
Students will do multi-media projects, introduce charcoal drawing and have free art. We will create our masterpieces with imaginations that are amazing at this age. No need to have taken Media Mania or Meet the Masters, but we’d love to see you guys too!

Ceramics
Richard Cohen teaches basic techniques of hand-building. Students will create decorative items while learning different techniques of glazing, decorating, and using surface treatments. Classes are small to provide individual attention and you will work on your own projects at your own pace.

Deerfield Dance Studio: Youth Ballet
Youth Ballet takes place in the large mirrored studio, complete with sprung wood floors for the health and safety of the dancers. The Studio’s team of professional teachers maintains a supportive, nurturing environment for all students.

Dance Class Attire:  Pink tights, pink Ballet shoes, any color leotard, Ballet skirt optional, hair pulled back in ponytail or bun, no jewelry.

Deerfield Dance Studio: Youth Jazz
Are you inspired to dance by shows like So You Think You Can Dance? If yes, let Rebekah Fontane introduce you to the beginning concepts of contemporary dance including a warm-up, improv exercise, and short combinations. The class will focus on artistry and development of technique. Jazz skills, terminology, rhythm, and coordination are taught and learned through movement and music. 

Dance Class Attire: Leggings, Jazz pants, or shorts (nothing too baggy and something the dancer can comfortably move in), t-shirt or tank top and jazz shoes.
