Hi John, Australia has launched a new payments platform which will be used by about 60 financial institutions, credit unions and building societies to effect financial transactions across the country.
The Commonwealth Bank is the first to begin offering the New Payments Platform, of which customers can register a PayID through the bank's app and avoid having to provide their BSB and account number to transfer funds from participating financial institutions. Connected law enforcement technologies company Axon Public Safety has locked up a deal with Victoria Police to purchase 11,000 of its Body 2 cameras. The Australian Government has announced new funding totalling $1.79 million to be allocated to new businesses to help to transform their ideas into globally competitive businesses. Australia's data breach law, which takes effect on 22 February, will be among the weakest in the world and is unlikely to impose any pressure on businesses to change the way they protect personal data at the moment, the founder and chief technology officer of a cyber security consulting firm claims. Google appears to have increased the scope of the data it collects by folding the hardware team of Nest, a maker of smart thermostats and smoke alarms that its parent Alphabet bought in 2014 for US$3.2 billion, into the Google Hardware team. The data leaked by US credit information provider Equifax may be much more than first disclosed, a report claims. And of course, there's plenty more so for all the news visit www.itwire.com.
