New charter school promises high teacher pay

A new charter school is coming to Baton Rouge. Third Future Schools is taking over from Democracy Prep, a charter school that is shutting down, in the old Prescott Middle School building.

Here's a look at what the school leaders, who say they are "turnaround experts," plan to do — including starting pay for teachers that would be significantly higher than many other local schools.

With so many roadbuilding projects in the works, there's a huge demand for concrete. And one of the plants that's helping crank out all that concrete has become a lightning rod. 

Nearby residents are complaining of loud noise and clouds of dust. But local leaders say the company is abiding by its permit, and the state says the company took steps to limit the problems.
