New complex could ease affordable housing problem in Baton Rouge area

Helping people in Baton Rouge find more equitable housing took another step forward on Thursday as officials cut the ribbon on a 216-unit apartment complex. 

Drakes Landing on North Ardenwood Drive will serve residents earning up to 80% of the area median income with rents ranging from $424 to $1,375 per month.

The complex is at about 85% capacity, and future residents can apply online.


A few years ago, the Louisiana black bear was teetering on the brink of extinction. Now, the iconic Bayou State species faces the possibility of a hunting season.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has initiated a process that could allow hunters to kill up to 10 of the bears next year.
