New details in grisly murder, dismemberment case

By Bob Warren

Police revealed some new details in the murder and dismembering of Julia Dardar during a very-late night hearing Tuesday. Benjamin Beale, the person accused of killing Dardar and cutting up her body was seen on cameras at a West Bank hardware store buying cleaning supplies and saw blades in the weeks prior, an NOPD detective told a judge.

No vacancy: One of the last vacant spots along busy Metairie Road won’t be vacant much longer. Work is expected to begin soon on a shopping area at the site, which is near Causeway Boulevard. It’ll be anchored by a high-end Italian restaurant.

Dennis Allen gets busy: The Saints formally introduced new head coach Dennis Allen on Tuesday. On Wednesday we got a first glimpse of how his coaching staff might shake out, with sources telling our Jeff Duncan that a couple former Saints coaches – Doug Marrone and John Morton – might be returning. This comes as Allen also deals with another big task – finding a quarterback.

Still naughty: Carnival's ramping up (but you already knew that!). Saturday night is the not-for-the-easily-offended Krewe du Vieux parade, which meanders through parts of the Marigny and French Quarter. This year's theme? "Vaxxed and Confused." "Prudes and the parents of impressionable children be warned," Doug MacCash writes.
