New editor at The Times-Picayune. A police shootout. Love and poboys

By Bob Warren

Big news on the home front today: Peter Kovacs, editor of The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com, is retiring. And Rene Sanchez, a Gentilly native currently at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, will be the new leader of our newsrooms. Congrats Peter, and welcome aboard, Rene.

Police shootout: New Orleans police reported this morning that one man is dead after a shootout with law enforcement officers. Details still emerging in that breaking story. Here’s the latest.

Tetlow leaving: Loyola University announced this morning that Tania Tetlow, who has led the university as president for nearly four years, is leaving to take the reins at Fordham University in New York. Here’s what we know.

What's next for Sean? So what’s the future look like for Sean Payton? Only he knows for sure. But Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan thinks he’ll return to coaching at some point, and perhaps in one of the league’s big markets.

Love and poboys: Finally, here’s one that will make you smile. Megan Wyatt’s story leads off like this: Becca Murphree of Olde Tyme Grocery in Lafayette and Justin Kennedy of Parkway Bakery and Tavern in New Orleans go together like fried shrimp and French bread. Who wouldn’t read that story?

Hope you enjoyed Lunch Line today. Thanks for taking a break with us.
