Backpackers hiking in Glacier National Park

Hi Friends!

We're feeling super inspired by our recent adventures, and we hope you’re getting outside too! Here's what we've been up to:

Dave and Annie just returned from a multi-week trip and had a blast getting outside with the family, despite getting sick. Dave's in training mode now for an ultra-marathon cycling event coming up in a couple of weeks. It's called RAMROD and covers over 150 miles and 10k feet in elevation gain!

Heather got some stunning new photos during her 8-day backpacking trip in Glacier National Park. She's returned to the office with a whole load of gear review notes to process. See her impression of the Platypus QuickDraw Water Filter here.

Casey's been enjoying van life and has been gear-testing up a storm in her wild Central Oregon backyard. She postponed her Rogue River Trail trip by a couple of weeks after scoring a permit for a few nights in the Central Cascades backcountry. She encountered some snow (and voracious mosquitos), but had a blast playing in the mountains with her partner and dog.

As always, thanks for following, and make sure to hit us up on social media.

Platypus QuickDraw Water Filter Review
The Platypus QuickDraw MicroFilter System is similar to other popular squeeze filters on the market but stands out for its fast flow rate, durable build, and easy maintenance.

Best Freeze Dried Meals
Freeze dried meals are some of the most popular meal options for hikers heading into the backcountry. They’re convenient, calorically dense, lightweight, and tasty at the end of a long day.

(Men's list/Women's list)
The CleverHiker team has been hard at work testing all of the new shoes that came out this year against our long-time faves, and there’s been quite a shakeup in the order of our lists. See what's new!
Leatherman Micra
GEAR PICK OF THE WEEK

The Leatherman Micra has all the tools we find ourselves frequently reaching for, yet it’s so small and lightweight that we barely notice it in our pockets.

The Micra’s useful toolset includes decent-size scissors, small tweezers, a knife, bottle opener, nail cleaner, and a variety of screwdrivers that work well for tightening things from big to small (sunglasses, buckle screws, etc.).

Because of its practical balance of size and versatility, the Micra is one of our favorite multitools for everyday use and the trail.

Check it out on our list of the Best Multitools.
