| A new out-of-court body certified by Irish authorities to settle disputes related to the Digital Services Act (DSA) has strong ties to Meta, but argues that it is and will remain independent. Appeals Centre Europe, a Dublin-based company registered in July, was certified on 26 September by Coimisiún na Meán, Ireland's media regulator, to handle DSA disputes related to content taken down or left up for five years, according to a Tuesday (8 October) press release. It will handle disputes relating to Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, the Appeals Centre website says. The body has received $15 million (€13.7 million) in a "one time, non-returnable, non-renewable" grant from Meta's Oversight Board Trust, CEO Thomas Hughes told Euractiv. The Oversight Board is a separate entity created by the social media giant to make decisions on content moderation. |
