Announcements Helene Langevin, M.D. July 28, 2020 As part of NCCIHs continued work to advance our scientific understanding of pain and the effects of mind and body approaches on health overall, we recently hosted a Hot Topic Webinar, Probing Interoceptive Processes: Behavioral, Psychological, and Neurophysiological Levels. The discussion focused on interoception, a process sometimes referred to as the sixth sense. |
August 4, 2020 Emmeline Edwards, Ph.D. NCCIH is committed to supporting research training and career development programs and increase the number, quality and diversity of scientists trained to conduct rigorous complementary and integrative health research. As part of our particular focus on individuals from groups who are underrepresented in scientific research, we are excited to announce our Centers participation in the Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program. |
July 28, 2020 Partap S.Khalsa,D.C., Ph.D. What is a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI), and why is the National Institutes of Health (NIH) using this type of funding announcement more frequently? Ill answer a few such questions and offer some resources. |
Two recent studies in mice provide insights into interoception (perception and regulation of signals from inside the body, such as respiration, hunger, etc.). Findings from the first study, which was published in the journalCell, shed light on airway defense mechanisms and how the brain detects and responds to internal sensations by suggesting that a group of throat-innervating sensory neurons serve as a front-line defense in the upper airways against infiltration and injury within the respiratory tract. The second study, which was published in the journalNeuron, found that insular cortex ongoing activity patterns reliably tracked the gradual return to homeostasis but not changes in behavior. Both studies were supported by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the NIH Directors Pioneer Award Program. | Resources for Researchers Validation Studies of Analytical Methods for Dietary Supplement Constituents (Admin Supp - Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Notice of Change: Clarification of Budget for PA-20-227 "Administrative Supplements for Research on Dietary Supplements (Admin Supp Clinical Trial Not Allowed)" NCCIH Policy Change to Budget Limit and Grant Durations for SBIR/STTR Phase I and Phase II Applications September 1, 2020; 12:30-2 p.m. ET This pre-application technical assistance webinar will provide an overview of the two NIH Multimorbidity Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) below. These FOAs are soliciting innovative research to better understand, measure, and intervene on multimorbidity, or multiple chronic conditions.
