BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer It has been more than a year since Deer Run — a proposed 2,000-plus lot subdivision in Livingston Parish — caught the public eye, producing heated council meetings and protracted court battles. But with a new president and council preparing to take office, elected officials appear for the first time to have a united voice in rallying the troops to stop the subdivision. The new parish government has expressed far more hawkish views on development. The state has released a list of which vape products retailers are allowed to sell under legislation passed this year, and smoke shop owners across Louisiana say the restrictions have forced them to pull nearly all disposable vapes from their shelves and have threatened their businesses’ survival. However, advocates for the new law say it will protect young Louisianans amid a nationwide teen vaping epidemic. With one week left in the regular season, LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Jayden Daniels leads the Football Bowl Subdivision with 4,591 total yards. He has 901 more than Washington quarterback Michael Penix and 924 more than Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, two of the other potential winners. Daniels has one more game to make his case for the Heisman: 11 a.m. Saturday against Texas A&M in Tiger Stadium. |
