New logo symbolizes changes The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has undergone immense change over the past 18 months.
First, the choir changed its name in October 2018 after 151 years as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. (The choir’s roots date back to 1847, but it became the Tabernacle Choir when the Salt Lake Tabernacle opened in 1867.)
Next, the pandemic made it impossible for the choir to continue practicing and producing its weekly National Radio Hall of Fame program “Music & the Spoken Word.”
Then, the 360 members of the choir had to sit out general conference in April.
“I personally missed being there,” choir music director Mack Wilberg said.
Last week the choir revealed a colorful new logo, complete with an animation component.
In my article on the new symbol, we included an image that explained all of the different aspects of the logo. Read that story and see the explanations by clicking here. See below to see all of the choir’s previous logos and the new one.
Finally, on Monday, the choir announced that its highly anticipated, three-week tour to Scotland and Scandinavia would be postponed to 2021.
President Russell M. Nelson instigated the name change. Most of the other changes were thrust upon the choir by the coronavirus pandemic. The new logo is an effort, choir leaders said, to update the choir’s video broadcasts and social media accounts. It’s also the start of a new strategic direction that will be outlined in the future. As they say, stay tuned. |
