RECHRISTENED: After almost two years of drawn-out debate and some missteps, highly ranked Lusher Charter School got a new name Saturday, one that evokes its origin in 1917 but severs its titular tie to a Confederate tax collector and white supremacist.
EXIT PLAN: Another one of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's top advisers, this time the one who led a raft of roadwork projects, oversaw the administration's long-term response to the August 2017 floods and played a role in its handling of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse, is leaving City Hall.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: Car burglaries in Lakeview and nearby neighborhoods are spiking this year at a rate that, if sustained, will see vehicle break-ins increase 18% over 2021. Among the latest victims: the area's New Orleans City Council representative.
