Good evening,

You'll probably be reading this just before Prime Minister Boris Johnson makes his latest proclamation on the subject of restrictions (it's at 8pm)and it's likely to be fairly draconian with the whole country widely expected to join us in Tier 4 and the likelihood of schools closing entirely. 

This, of course, as we know, if essentially lockdown again and it seems unlikely, given the pressure today, he'll go for a lighter option.

If he does, of course, you can all tell me to eat my hat.

But Mr Johnson has already said he would act “in due course” and “will do everything that’s necessary” so I do not feel the need to consult my crystal ball.

And this afternoon the good people of Scotland have told they will be in a national lockdown from midnight due to a surge of coronavirus cases.

It’s safe to say nobody is surprised, whatever the details of the decision.

The schools' situation which left both parents and teachers in a confusing and difficult situation this weekend has to be resolved.

It was simply unfair on all teachers, parents and children. Children need their education but not at an unnecessary risk to their own and their family’s health - Mr Johnson has been facing a revolt in the face of conflicting and confusing information.

It’s either safe or it’s not - whatever the age of the child. 

So whatever is announced tonight, I imagine it will mean more restrictions that add up to lockdown and we’ll all have to support each other through it.
