| New 3M Study Reveals Science Is Underappreciated | | The results of a new global study by 3M found that more than one-third of the respondents are intimidated by science, with 36% agreeing only geniuses can have a career in science. The study—14,036 adults across 14 countries were surveyed—explores the image of science around the world. Respondents were asked about their knowledge, understanding and appreciation of science, as well as questions about the image and future of science. Learn more about the State of Science Index. | |

| Understanding Our World Using Science | | NSTA Executive Director David Evans and Elizabeth Allan, NSTA Division Director for College Science Teaching and professor of biology at the University of Central Oklahoma, joined other thought leaders for a university-hosted two-day forum titled The Freedom of Expression: Teaching and Learning in Our Time. Evans and Allan spoke and moderated the session The Nature of Science: Process and Progress, where they discussed the process and importance of scientific inquiry in understanding the world and what happens when science conflicts with one's values.
