Haematology is an integrated discipline that incorporates both clinical and laboratory skills and is an area where we are seeing exciting advances. A broad understanding of haematological malignancies - and knowing how clinical decisions are made is essential for anyone wishing to progress in the field.
RAPID UPTAKE OF EVIDENCE AND BEST PRACTICE INTO CARE
To meet this need, the VCCC has developed online eLearning resources for health professionals to freely access wherever you are. The modules feature actual case studies - as explained by senior consultant clinical and laboratory haematologists, in discussion with registrars. Online learners can reflect on their own patient management, and compare their decisions while viewing the videos.
Module 1 Discusses an Indolent lymphoma case of a 40-year-old with stage IV r 1 follicular lymphoma... the cause of which is unknown.
Module 2 Explores the importance of measurable residual disease (MRD). MRD is a hot topic in haematology. This module looks at how we measure low levels of leukaemia in the body and why it matters.
Module 3 Discusses the case of a 49-year-old with paraproteinaemia - excessive amounts of myeloma protein or monoclonal gamma globulin in the blood. The case is investigated to ascertain a potential diagnosis of multiple myeloma.
Module 4 Introduces a 50-year-old with an aggressive B-cell lymphoma. We know an increasing amount about their biology and from those advances, new therapies are emerging for some of the lymphomas difficult to cure.
Module 5 This module will focus on a young teen with a new diagnosis of pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer.
INTERPRETATION AND APPLICATION OF NEW KNOWLEDGE
Each module is 30-45 minutes in length and includes case study reviews, interactive quizzes, and roundtable discussions.
