A new poll finds Jared Golden and Donald Trump leading in Maine’s 2nd District:

— The most surprising aspect of SurveyUSA’s exclusive poll for the electoral reform group FairVote and the Bangor Daily News was the size of Golden’s advantage over Republican challenger Austin Theriault.

A Lincoln funeral home owner is facing 14 felony theft charges. Harold Lamson was arrested May 20 and originally charged with four felony counts Aug. 8. More charges were added during the grand jury indictment.

Brewer opened a new music park at former Getchell Brothers site. “Cool Tones on the Riverwalk” has several large musical instruments, such as tubular bells, a xylophone and drums, for visitors to play.

A couple has transformed an iconic Caribou Inn into Aroostook’s second Best Western. Best Western Caribou Inn joins three other national chain hotels in The County.

There’s a new plan to revive American chestnut trees, and it needs you. For earlier generations of homesteaders, the spiky nuts were a food source. The wood grew quickly with a straight grain and resisted rot, making it valuable for construction.


Planting garlic? BDN readers say to try a raised bed. The beds get credit for being easier on your back and knees, but they’re also a way to work around challenging soil conditions and meet the particular needs of garlic plants.
